Alesmith Speedway Stout Cans
After a lot of anticipation, Alesmith announced last Friday that they are now canning Speedway Stout! About a week ago, Alesmith Brewing teased the silhouette of a beer can, eluding that they would start canning one of their beers. Many speculated what it could be anything from Speedway Stout to their .394 Pale Ale.
Right now you can only pick up these beauties at the brewery directly for $7.99 per can. However, Alesmith has noted that they will start distribution in the following 21 states: (AZ, CA, CT, IL, MA, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, TX, VA, VT, & WA) and Denmark. The 16oz cans will be sold individually.
If you are not familiar with Speedway Stout, it’s one of the more popular imperial stouts out of San Diego. They describe the beer as:
“Speedway Stout’s ominous, pitch-black appearance has become a hallmark of this modern-day classic. Chocolate and roasted malts dominate the flavor, supported by notes of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel. A healthy dose of locally-roasted coffee from Ryan Bros. Coffee, Inc. added to each batch brings out the beer’s dark chocolate flavors and enhances its drinkability. Despite its intensity, Speedway Stout’s fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel make it very smooth and surprisingly easy to drink. This beer ages very well and will continue to mature for many years to come.”
This 12% ABV Imperial Stout has won awards such as: Silver – 2008 Great American Beer Festival (Aged Beer), Gold – 2012 San Diego International Beer Competition (Imperial Stout), Gold – 2014 San Diego International Beer Competition (Imperial Stout).
